frmf2xml: getting Oracle Forms into text for AI, with the right syntax

No module= option, output named ORDERS_fmb.xml next to the input, and the Jdapi error on headless servers means no DISPLAY.

Before an AI can explain a legacy Oracle Forms module, you need the form as text. That's frmf2xml, and I ran it to check what actually happens:

  • Syntax: frmf2xml.sh OVERWRITE=YES ORDERS.fmb. Files are plain arguments; there is no module= option.
  • Output: ORDERS_fmb.xml (_mmb / _olb for menus and object libraries), written next to the input file.
  • .fmx is not an input; .pll libraries go through frmcmp_batch to .pld.
  • "Error initialising the Forms Jdapi" on a headless Linux server usually means there is no DISPLAY (Xvfb fixes it).

The trigger and program-unit code then sits in the XML, ready for an AI to document the business rules.
