APEX 26.2 upgrade: the prerequisites most checklists skip

ORDS and SQLcl 26.3.0 or later, WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY = AUTO in the installer's session, the right container, and a rollback plan.

APEX 26.2 went GA on 6 October 2026. Before you upgrade, check the things the Installation Guide requires and most checklists skip:

  • ORDS 26.3.0 or later, and SQLcl 26.3.0 or later.
  • WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY = AUTO in the same session that runs apexins.sql (system-wide if APEX lives in the CDB root).
  • Connect to the PDB, not the CDB root, unless APEX really is installed in the root.
  • Keep the 24.1 install kit: a rollback runs apxdwngrd.sql from it.
  • Know that reverting discards every APEX change made since the upgrade.
